Mountaintown Outdoor Expeditions 

Mountain Outdoor Expeditions'  trip is a half day on the Cartecay River (Class I, II or III). Their premier trip incorporates Laurel-covered banks with exciting rapids for a fun trip for all age and skill levels in a variety of boats. They are outfitted for canoe, duckie and kayak rentals and sales, and provide a shuttle service.

State recreation areas in the area of Ellijay include Carters Lake, Amicalola Falls State Park, and Fort Mountain State Park. There are two wildlife management areas, the Cohutta Wilderness and the Rich Mountain Wilderness. Ellijay also has a public golf course that welcomes residents and visitors alike.
